Divanaire: Cathy Mason–Can I Get an Amen?
She’s raised a family, loves her dog , loves her friends, and will offer you a kind spiritual word in a minute. She’s not your ordinary “church lady,” and holds a key role as the assistant pastor at The Bridge, Southwest Community Christian Center in Houston, Texas. She can preach and teach the good word with ease and style and, I might add, is a darn good spades player–so watch out. This week we are featuring Reverend Cathy Mason, a true leader and believer in the Man upstairs—this is what truly what makes her a divanaire.
What is your definition of a Diva?
A diva is a lady that has charisma, confidence and integrity. She knows what she wants and will not compromise her moral or ethical principals. Secure in who she is and does not need the validation of others to affirm her. She is loyal and committed to family, her friendships are deep and binding, her inner beauty is expressed in the way she lives and she understands that her life is blessed by God.
Name a Diva that you identify with and why.
Renita Jackson. When she walks in the room she will change the atmosphere. If you are having a good time, her presence makes it better. In a span of a couple of years she battled with breast cancer, the death of her mother-in-law and the death of her sister. In all of this, I would say that she stayed “fit for the fight.” She is a full-figured woman that dresses like a run-way model, walks like you better recognize, and she is not a hater but a celebrator. This diva is an educator in her profession and an educator in her lifestyle. I have learned some valuable life lessons from Renita. It seems that her trade-mark jewelry gets bigger and brighter with every challenge she faces. She is a real diva.
What’s your latest Diva Deluxe purchase?
Golf clubs, shoes, gloves, and lessons by a pro (a true diva).
What is the one Divafying item you can’t live without?
A handkerchief which belonged to a diva who was in a class of her own, my grandmother, Ms. Celia.
So with that said, we hope you enjoyed this week’s divanaire; I did as she is my lovely stepmother!
Smooches,
Professor Cali

Thank you for acknowledging my sister for the person she is and the true woman of God that she is. We all love her. And although her latest purchase was golf clubs, a glove, and shoes she is going to need a lot of practice to beat me. I love you Cathy Lynn and I thank God for you and the rest of my family every single day of my life.
