Rough Start….

Remember going back to school as a teen? Obsessing about what wear on the first day and all the anxiety and anticipation of seeing your friends.   This week I returned to campus after winter break with none of that teen spirit.   I’ve been sleeping until 11am daily during break.

The night before the faculty institute, I slept fitfully worried I would oversleep. I had to be on campus at 9am.  I’m no morning person.  After two weeks without setting an alarm clock this was a struggle.   I woke up at 3am and was wide awake until 6am before I fell asleep again.   Of course now I overslept!   I scrambled around the house trying to pull it together.  No carefully selected outfit from the clothes I received for Christmas like during my teen years.  I grabbed the first pair of clean and not wrinkled pants and a sweater.  I was also starving.   So I went downstairs with my boots and put oatmeal in the microwave and went back upstairs to flat iron my hair.

Well I didn’t realize the power of the new microwave and came back down to a half melted bowl.  I ate the salvageable oatmeal and grabbed my boots it was 8:45!  Ugh…I had one brown boot and one black one!  Bounded upstairs wearing one brown boot to retrieve the other.

Finally out the door at 8:55 only to discover that the windshield and rear window is covered with frost!   I thought I had left my glass scrapping days behind when I came back to the South.  But it has been bitterly cold for a week here.   Turned the car on, blasted the defroster hit the windshield washer button, frozen!  Then I got the scrapper out of the trunk and cleared enough of the glass for visibility and spun the car around.   Stop! There’s something on the front steps???  Jump out of the car.  It’s a new dress from Torrid!   Toss the dress into the car and screech off.   Finished makeup at a stoplight, made the 10 minute drive to campus in five, found an illegal parking spot close to the chapel where the meeting was being held.

I was sitting by 9:15 and the opening prayer.    Meeting after meeting took place until 2pm all of them way too long.   Then off to my office to write syllabi.  Only completed one today and was in the office until 7.  Very little of the advance reading and preps for classes I planned to do, I  actually did during the break. Classes start on Monday I’ll snap out of this and be back in full diva form internally and externally to face my students.

Air Kisses,

Professor Diva Mac
