From A-Town to H-Town

During my Divascape to Houston, I had the opportunity to visit family, eat good food, and of course shop. The people were friendly and I enjoyed the scenery albeit flat, no mountains nor hills in sight but a lot of land.
Houston is actually the fourth largest city in the United States and the largest city in the state of Texas. The city was incorporated on June 5, 1837 and named after the former general Sam Houston. According to the 2008 U.S. Census Bureau, there are 2.2 million people who live in this great city.
Our first stop was Luby’s Cafeteria. I used to frequent this eatery several times during my summer visits to Houston as a kid. It’s cheap and pretty good considering it’s a cafeteria. I’m not a cafeteria type, however, Luby’s passed. The good thing about Houston is that there are A LOT of places to eat and shop.
We also had the pleasure of going to dinner at Willie G’s Seafood & Steaks. From the wine to entrée, it was a delicious occasion. We feasted on salmon, shrimp, tilapia, bisque, etc. Willie G’s is also located in Galveston on the Gulf of Mexico and Denver.
For shopping, there is The Galleria near downtown Houston with stores that divas love: Gucci, Neiman, Tiffany & Co., Valentino, etc.; I could go on and on. We did a drive by as I was with the hubby and family and when I shop, I shop alone. However, we did make our way to Houston Premium Outlets with over 120 stores. From Coach to Kate Spade, there was a plethora of great finds. I didn’t get a chance to purchase some “good ole cowgirl boots” however I am looking forward to this the next time.
And as always, I try to embrace the arts and culture when visiting a city. We had the opportunity to see Christmas with Great Aunt at The Ensemble Theatre. Houston is an art centered city as I remember seeing the Nutcracker there as a young diva.
The Space Center was another stop as we learned about all things space. This is a great place to visit with the kids, as they will learn about Apollo 13, man on the moon, our solar system, moon rocks and the mystery of space. The best feature is the NASA tram tour where visitors learn how the astronauts train for their missions.
I truly had a wonderful time with family. We ate, played card and board games, shopped, and celebrated the holidays Texas style; everything in Texas is done up BIG!
Smooches,
Professor Diva Cali
