Stocking and Sandal Syndrome- OMG!

Nylon stockings. They can be your best friend or worst enemy. Whether the professional office setting or provocative setting, nylon stockings have changed the fabric of our fashion lives. And I imagine men prefer the later setting
)
Interestingly enough, a man actually invented nylon. Dr. Wallace Hume Carothers worked for the DuPont Corporation and invented nylon, which eventually replaced silk stockings. DuPont decided to further his invention making it into a commercial fabric in 1938. Who knew, seventy-one years later, women’s hosiery would have advanced thus far.
With the holidays in full swing, diva-naires will prepare for dinner parties, office gatherings, black tie events, and such. Dr. Carothers’ invention will suddenly become prevalent in our vocabulary (again) and we’ll make a dash to Blommies (or not) to make that purchase. Whether you call them stockings, nylons, pantyhose, or undergarments, let’s hope that you will not fall victim to a major fashion mishap: the stocking and sandal syndrome (o, no!)
NO. NO. NO. Why would one want to wear sandals and stockings? Isn’t that an oxymoron? When wearing sandals feet only need lotion and a pedicure. Is this what Dr. Carothers had in mind when he invented this fabric—that it would be worn with a sandal? I do hope that he had some fashion sense. We usually pull out our stockings when the weather goes from Miami heat to Milwaukee cold. Divas, a sandal and stocking NEVER go together. It’s just not a happy marriage and is grounds for divorce.
So if you see any of your diva friends attempting this fashion faux pas, please do the following:
- Attempt to excuse them from the party
- Explain that they have committed a crime
- Demand immediate removal of the stocking
- Return to the party for a cocktail—you’ll need one
This is a leave your Jimmy Choo’s at the door and turn around; a fashion no-no.
Smooches,
Professor Diva Cali
