Beauty in the “Eye” of the Beholder

This past weekend, I decided, this diva needed a night out on the town and ventured off with the hubby and friends to enjoy the sights and sounds and great libations.
As I started my beauty regiment, I thought, what eye shadow would glow and shimmer in the light. I made a dash to the make up drawer, and said to myself, “good lord it’s time for an upgrade.”
Eyeshadow is one of my favorite make up elements. Your eyes can speak volumes without your mouth saying a word. So I plunged into the various colors in my vanity and came out with a purple shimmer blend. Some of my favorite colors are by Avon and include: Violet Flip, Precious Taupe, Mirror Shine (eye pencil), Charcoal Quad (four colors in one case); and Neutrogena’s Shimmer Sheers. Whether they are still available, who knows, but they definitely frequent these eyes. And of course, I must plug my Avon diva’s website as she has great deals on eyeshadow: http://youravon.com/tellehahoward
As all diva-naires are aware, there are a plethora of techniques with eye shadow application. You should consider the shape of your eye (small or protruding eye, etc.), the look/occasion you are going for (daytime or evening; wedding or night out) among other factors (texture of makeup, brush types, etc.) The following is one method that I agree with and use when it comes to these eyes:
- Prime the lids by applying a light touch of foundation or concealer to the lids to even skin tone and help shadow adhere to the lid. Blend well, but use a gentle touch with this sensitive skin area.
- Sweep a color similar to your skin tone (or a touch lighter) over the entire lid from lashes to brow bone. Start at the bottom of your eyelid and work your way up.
- Sweep a light or white shadow (shimmer or matte, your preference) directly under the brows from the middle of the eye outwards. This is your brow bone highlighter and will help to open up the eyes.
- Take the next darkest color and sweep shadow across the eyes from lash line to the crease. Blend well outwards. Also, blending is key to avoid a drastic line across the crease.
- Finish with a careful application of eyeliner to the top lid in a complimentary color. There are so many fantastic eyeliner colors available today, so experiment with what is out there and what looks best on you.

Well, that about sums it up. You hold the beauty in your eyes so strut your stuff!
