A “New” Student In Class

Who knew, this late in the semester I would have a “new” student.

So, this Professor Diva comes to class on Tuesday and a student decides that today is the day that they will speak with a French accent. WHAT???

Now I’m thinking, “where am I” and ask, “why do you have an accent now?” Reply (in French accent): “Mi family isza from Provence, France, and I act-ual-ly speak withz an accent.” Is that right? Hmm.

Funny, he mentioned Provence; I actually had the opportunity to visit this region a couple years ago. I went to Avignon, France and this is a city in that region. So I decide to query further.

“Really, Avignon is in that region?” All I can say is a deer caught in headlights. All of the sudden he looks very confused and doesn’t know what to say. So I repeat “the city of Avignon is in that region correct?”

He had no clue what I was talking about and responded “um, I’z don’t um, eh, um, knowz.” At this point, I just left it alone and proceeded with my lecture. The other students, of course, had the look of “you just messed up.”

So my “new” student the Frenchman, I imagine may or may not appear again. Hopefully, he will be better prepared and know a little more about the region of Provence. For all I know, he could be from Minnesota, taking a French class, and wanted to impress me with his new accent. Nonetheless, I needed a French martini by the time I made it home!

Smooches,
Professor Diva Cali

P.S. Why not indulge! Oh la-la :o )
